# Understanding Class Types

A2B Manager supports four different class types, allowing clubs to choose how each activity is booked and paid for.

The four class types are:

- Recurring Subscription
- Term
- PAYG
- Multi-Event

The class type you choose determines how the class is structured, how parents book, and how payments are collected.

Importantly, **the same type of activity can be offered using different class types**.

For example, an Adult Gymnastics class could be offered as a recurring monthly subscription, a term-based class, or a PAYG session.

This gives clubs the flexibility to choose the booking structure that works for each activity rather than having to run every class in the same way.

---

## Recurring Subscription Classes

**Best for:** Regular classes where members attend on an ongoing basis.

Typical examples include:

- Recreational Gymnastics
- Squad Training
- Preschool Gymnastics
- Weekly Trampoline Classes

Members join a Group and normally continue attending each week until their place is cancelled.

Payments are handled using a recurring subscription.

### Structure

**Category → Class → Award Syllabus → Group → Times & Locations → Subscription**

The Group controls much of the booking setup, including capacity, age requirements, trials, waiting lists, booking windows and the available subscription options.

A Group can also have multiple training times and locations, allowing the same group of members to train several times per week or across different venues.

**Example:**

**Gymnastics → Recreational Gymnastics → Monday 4pm → Monday 4pm–5pm at Main Gym → £40/month**

---

## Term-Based Classes

**Best for:** Activities that run for a defined period with a start and end date.

Typical examples include:

- School-term programmes
- Short courses
- Blocks of lessons
- Termly recreational programmes

The Group defines the term, including its **name, start date and end date**.

Individual Times & Locations are then added to the Group, with the session price configured against the relevant time and location.

### Structure

**Category → Class → Award Syllabus → Group → Times & Locations**

For example:

**Gymnastics → Recreational Gymnastics → Autumn Term → Monday 4pm–5pm at Main Gym → £5 per session**

A Term Class can also have an **optional subscription attached when the parent books**.

This is useful when a club needs to collect a separate recurring or additional charge alongside the term booking, such as British Gymnastics insurance or club membership.

---

## PAYG Classes

**Best for:** Casual activities where members book individual sessions without committing to attend every week.

Typical examples include:

- Parent & Toddler sessions
- Open gym sessions
- Adult Gymnastics
- Birthday party sessions
- Drop-in activities

### Structure

**Category → Class → Group → Time & Location**

For PAYG Classes, the individual **Time & Location** contains the information required for that session, including:

- Day and time
- Location
- Age requirements
- Capacity
- Price per child

Parents then choose and pay for the individual session they want to attend.

There is no requirement for them to sign up to attend the class every week.

**Example:**

**Gymnastics → Parent & Toddler → Saturday 9am → Saturday 9am–10am at Main Gym → £5 per child**

---

## Multi-Event Classes

**Best for:** Activities where several related dates are available and parents need to select multiple dates as part of one booking.

Typical examples include:

- Summer Holiday Camps
- Easter Camps
- Christmas Camps
- Multi-day activities
- Holiday programmes

Multi-Event Classes work similarly to PAYG Classes, but instead of the parent choosing an individual session, they can choose **multiple dates from a cluster of available dates**.

### Structure

**Category → Class → Group → Dates, Times & Locations**

For example, a Summer Holiday Camp could offer:

**Monday 3 August**
**Tuesday 4 August**
**Wednesday 5 August**
**Thursday 6 August**
**Friday 7 August**

A parent could then select Monday, Wednesday and Friday as part of the same booking.

This makes Multi-Event ideal for holiday camps where parents may require several days but do not necessarily want to book every available date.

# Which Class Type Should I Use?

| If you want to... | Class Type |
| --- | --- |
| Have members attend regularly and pay through an ongoing subscription | **Recurring Subscription** |
| Run an activity for a defined term with start and end dates | **Term** |
| Allow parents to book individual sessions | **PAYG** |
| Allow parents to select multiple dates from a collection of dates | **Multi-Event** |

The important thing to remember is that **the activity itself does not determine the class type**.

For example, you could offer **Adult Gymnastics** as:

**Recurring Subscription** — attend every week and pay monthly.

**Term** — book an entire term.

**PAYG** — book individual sessions whenever required.

The class type simply determines **how that activity is structured, booked and paid for**.

---

## Quick Summary

**Recurring Subscription**
Regular ongoing attendance → recurring payment.

**Term**
Fixed start and end date → term-based booking and session pricing.

**PAYG**
Individual sessions → book only the sessions required.

**Multi-Event**
Collection of related dates → select multiple dates within one booking.

That gives clubs the flexibility to build their programme around how they actually operate, rather than forcing every activity into the same booking structure.
